The Monte Cristo Sandwich
This is the ultimate make at home Monte Cristo Sandwich, with ham and cheese that is cooked french toast style. Can be served with powdered sugar and jam. A delicious sweet and savory combo that will wake up your taste buds!
There are many versions out there, but this is how I make mine.
White bread or Brioche for a little more decadent sliced deli ham or turkey or both sliced swiss cheese (or your favorite cheese will do) 2 tbsp mayonnaise 1 tsp dijon mustard jam (raspberry, strawberry, I used red plum for the video) custard ratio: 1 egg with 1/4 cup milk (I used 2%) pinch of salt and pepper butter Instructions Blend the mayo and mustard. Take 3 slices of bread and spread the mayo and mustard mixture on 2 slices. Spread a thin layer of jam on 1 slice. Place a slice of cheese one each piece of bread. Place ham or turkey on 2 slices of bread. Then stack the bread with the mayo pieces on each end and the jam piece in the middle. Mix egg and milk together with a pinch of salt and pepper. Dip the sandwich in the egg custard. Melt a couple tbsp of butter in a skillet and then place the dipped sandwich into the hot skillet. Cook a couple minutes on each side until golden brown and egg is cooked through.
