These Hush Puppies are golden brown crispy balls on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. And they are ready in minutes! This Hush Puppy recipe is an easy southern food side dish and by far the best I have ever made or tried.
Hush Puppy
Ingredients
1 cup cornmeal
1/4 cup self rising flour (you can use all purpose also)
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp baking powder
1 tbsp sugar
1 egg
half of onion, grated
1/2 cup buttermilk (1/2 cup regular milk and 1 tsp apple cider vinegar)
1/2 tsp salt
oil for frying
Siracha dipping sauce
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 1/2 tsp siracha (feel free to add more if you like it spicy)
2 tbsp honey
Instructions
In a bowl combine cornmeal, self rising flour, baking soda, baking powder, sugar, and salt. Then add buttermilk, egg, and grated onion. Stir until everything is mixed. In a large skillet or deep fryer, drop spoonful of batter into hot oil. Fry until both sides of hush puppies are golden brown, about 4 to 5 minutes.
